Beth yw teseliad?

Teseliad yw'r enw am siapiau sy'n ffitio gyda'i gilydd yn berffaith heb unrhyw fylchau neu orgyffwrdd - fel pos diddiwedd!

Efallai y byddwch chi'n gweld teseliadau mewn lloriau teils, diliau mêl, neu hyd yn oed mewn celf. Mae rhai siapiau, fel sgwariau, trionglau, a hecsagonau, yn wych am deselu oherwydd gallant ailadrodd drosodd a throsodd i orchuddio'r lle yn llwyr.

Pa siapiau/patrymau sy'n gweithio orau?

Yn hytrach nag ymarfer gwahanol siapiau ar does cwcis - a allai arwain at bentwr enfawr, cudd o ddanteithion melys - dechreuwch trwy brofi siapiau ar does chwarae (playdough).

You'll test different shapes, compare how much dough is saved, and discover how maths and design come together in the kitchen. Whether you're baking for fun or solving a festive STEM challenge, this is geometry you can taste!

What is tessellation?

Tessellation is when shapes fit together perfectly without any gaps or overlaps - like a puzzle that goes on forever!

You might see tessellations in tiled floors, honeycombs, or even in art. Some shapes, like squares, triangles, and hexagons, are great at tessellating because they can repeat over and over to cover a space completely.

Which shapes/patterns work best?

Rather than practicing different shapes on cookie dough - which could lead to a massive stash of sweet treats - start by testing shapes on rolled out playdough.

Measure how much dough is left over after each shape test to work out the best design to use when cutting cookies.

Start with a basic non-tessellating round cookie cutter to set a standard for how much dough is left-over.
